Faux Tortoise Shell Hair Comb Victorian

DESCRIPTION	The faux tortoise shell comb was very popular in the early to mid 19c. The advantage of both the tortoise shell & horn was that they could be made soft & moldable by heat. As they cooled, they would harden & retain their shape. This lovely antique comb measures 4-1/2 inches in length and 3-1/2 inches in width. What a rare wonderful piece of history with a Pat. March 19 1895 The word Faux was added 8/22/08. Because it fool me for many years. It has no mold marks, the plastic is slightly wavy and it looks cloudy in parts like tortoise shell. But under the trusty Jewelers Lop 5x the cloudy part is not made of tiny blood dots like the real McCoy All of our Tortoise Shell is Antique or Vintage it was imported prior to the 1960’s. U.S. Law prohibits the international sale of Tortoise Shell; therefore we cannot ship Tortoise Shell outside the United States.
