Victorian Vulcanite Brooch

DESCRIPTION	This Brooch is a beautiful example of Victorian artisanship. I believe that it was given to a woman to commemorate the memory of a husband or a son. It looks like a piece of mourning jewelry done in a military motif. This exquisite brooch has been tested to be made of 10k gold and is also made from Vulcanite which is a hard, rubber material that has a distinct burning rubber smell when briskly rubbed. The brooch measures 2-1/2 inches in width and 2 inches in length it has a silver design in the middle and a ribbon motif on the gold. It has a straight hinged pin with a C- catch. This is a well preserved lovingly stored item that is a beautiful reminder of the past and the sentimental messages portrayed by jewelry of that era. What a treasure this is!
