  Pearl Cleaning
After each wearing, wipe your pearls with a soft cloth to remove body oil, makeup, and pollution.  Wear your pearls at least once a month, the humidity from your body does them good.  If you wear your pearls on a regular basis, have them professionally cleaned every year to prevent dust, powder, and skin oils from accumulating in the bead holes.  Have the beads restrung (and the clasp checked)  the moment you notice the string stretching or looking dingy.

  Bone and Ivory Cleaning

  Step 1
Mix a few drops of dish washing soap and a cup warm water together in a dish.

Step 2
Dip a soft clean cloth into the mixture until cloth is damp and use to gently wipe the bone or ivory. Do not soak the item as ivory is very porous and will absorb moisture.

Step 3
Repeat step 1 & 2 but use clean water.

Step 4
Dry with a clean soft cloth or a paper towel.

Do not try to lighten bone or ivory. For it darkens in color with age it is a natural part of the aging process of ivory. The color of antique ivory is often used as an indicator of age and the patina protects the ivory as well.
